Hazelnut Butter Biscuits


Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan and heat until it browns. Watch carefully so that cooking is stopped just before the butter burns. Cool the browned butter until it starts to set, then cream it with the sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla and then add the flour and baking powder. Roll into balls and place well spaced on lightly buttered trays. Rub the skins off the hazelnuts and place one atop each ball. Bake at 160 degrees for 10-15 minutes until light brown. Cool for a few minutes before taking off the trays.
